This year, the Abryanz Style & Fashion Awards (ASFAs) 2025 isn’t just back — it’s on a mission.

At the center of this year's highly anticipated event lies a bold, disruptive theme:
“The FASHIVISTS.”

But what does it really mean to be a Fashivist? And why is this more than just a theme — but a movement?

Here’s everything you need to know about the Fashivist revolution that’s reshaping the meaning of fashion in Africa.

Who is a Fashivist?

Fashivist is not just someone who wears clothes.
A Fashivist wears meaning.

They are fashion activists, style revolutionaries, and cultural storytellers who use fashion as a form of expression, resistance, and advocacy. Whether it’s a designer, stylist, influencer, or everyday fashion lover, a Fashivist believes that style should stand for something.

From reclaiming African identity to challenging gender norms, calling out inequality, or promoting mental health and sustainability — Fashivists are on the frontline, using clothing and creativity as a language of change.

Why Now?

According to founder, Brian Ahumuza, with political polarization, cultural erasure, climate crises, and rising youth unemployment across the continent, fashion is no longer just about trends — it’s about truth. The ASFAs 2025 seeks to recognize, empower, and reward those who are daring enough to wear their beliefs.

“Fashion is no longer silent. It speaks. And the Fashivists are the new voices of Africa’s cultural renaissance,” says ASFAs Founder, Brian Ahumuza (Abryanz).

What the Movement Will Look Like This Year:

ASFAs 2025 will be a multilayered campaign and experience that reflects the spirit of the Fashivist, including:

  • ASFAs Fashion Week: Where purpose-driven designers from across Africa showcase collections with messages rooted in activism, identity, and transformation.

  • Fashion for Purpose Exhibits: Installations and presentations tied to themes like sustainability, mental health awareness, inclusivity, and Afro-heritage.

  • Regional Talent Tours: The ASFAs team will scout and platform designers from underrepresented regions to bring grassroots fashion voices to the big stage.

  • Monthly Fashion Activations: From panel talks and masterclasses to pop-up runway shows and community projects, the Fashivist narrative will be told city by city.

  • The Main Awards Night: Culminating in December, the grand event will recognize those who dared to turn fabric into a force, and style into a stand.
